How to Prioritize Your Mental Health While Navigating College Life

ree

Mental health often gets neglected in the hustle and bustle of college life, but it is arguably the most important thing to maintain and improve. Below you will find some tips and resources on caring for your mental health in college or just in general:

Do a Weekly Mental Health Check In

Take a few minutes each week to assess your mood and how you have felt in the past week. If you notice a trend, it might be time to switch some things up.

Utilize on Campus (usually free) Therapy Resources

Most schools offer free counseling to students. Search your schools webpage to find out if that is something available to you. If your school does not have this option, ask around to see if they have any community partners with discounts.

Participate in Self-Care Activities

Self care is important, and it looks different for everyone. One person might prefer to take some time to play video games. Another might like to draw a nice bath and read a book. I recommend writing down activities that you find refreshing, so when you need to take some time for yourself you can choose something off of the list. Be sure to schedule in self-care time in your planner or calendar.

Talk About It

When you are stressed or upset, talk about it with a trusted friend or your therapist. Unresolved feelings can end up doing harm later on.
